Finger Painting: Fun Ideas for Kids
Getting your hands dirty has never been so creative!
Finger painting is one of children's favorite activities: free, colorful, and sensorial. It's perfect for little ones who aren't yet comfortable with brushes and pencils, but also for older children who want to experiment playfully. Here's how to organize a smile-inducing (and laundry-inducing!) session.
Materials: What You Need (and What to Avoid)
All you need are washable, non-toxic finger paints, thick paper or cardstock, aprons or old T-shirts, and an easy-to-clean table. Avoid overly liquid paints: they run and create more mess than art. Oh, and keep wipes or sponges handy!
Footprints that become stories
With simple handprints, you can create a thousand different designs: bees, trees, little animals, balloons... Just add a few details with a marker once it's dry. It's also a creative way to learn shapes and colors.
Full-hand painting
For the more daring kids (and the bravest parents): go full palm! Print your hand on paper, then transform it into a peacock, a fish, or a funny monster. The effect is always wow.
Games of textures and sensations
Finger painting is also a sensory game: you can mix colors, fine sand, salt, or flour to create rough or smooth surfaces. It stimulates touch, sight, and creativity all at once.
